SENIORS IN ACTION

Period of implementation: October 2007 – September 2009

Description: the project was a partnership with 7 organizations from european countries, trying to connect two differrent groups – seniors (over 55 years old) and young people through educational activities.

In the project 10 seniors from every partner organization were trainned in non formal education techniques to develop their apacity of teaching children one of thei special ability. After this trainning the seniors each developed and implemented a trening course with at least 10 children and this trening course was presented as an extracurricular activity for the schools in the region.

The aim of the project was to create a model of social and semi-professional activation of seniors (+55 years old) that will valorize a special competence of them, contribute to their employability and encourage their participation in the production/education process by developing the learning of others, specifically children/pupils aged 9-12.

The project’s objectives:

  • to develop the teaching competences of seniors and to make them informal teachers on a specific subject for children/pupils aged 9-12 years old;
  • to organize informal learning environments for seniors, teachers and pupils and to help all three social and age groups to participate in these and to interact;
  • to create a framework for networking and to develop synergies among partners, among partners and seniors and among partners, seniors and teachers;
  • to create and develop a variety of outputs and products that will facilitate project’s sustainability;
  • to disseminate and valorize the knowledge, experience, good practice and property acquired from the project
  • to other national and European agencies.

Activities:

  • selecting 10 seniors from each partner country;
  • trening and developing their skills in order to deliver a trening program for children aged form 9 to 12 old;
  • delivering 10 trening packages to pupils in every partner country; organizing diseminating meetings with teachers;
  • editing 500 DVDs of the documentary developed in the project.

Results at a local level:

  • 10 seniors trained in non formal education;
  • 129 children aged 9-12 beneficiating from the trening courses organized by the seniors;
  • information note about the situation of seniors in the partner countries; need analissys;
  • 500 DVDs with the documentary created in the project.

Budget: The project was financed with the support of the European Commission, Programul Grundtvig (29.901 euro was the budget for ARCS as a partner).
